Electronic Cargo Tracking Note (eCTN)
We regularly supply LABSA from LG Korea to Burundi and one of the mandatory requirements of Burundi, amongst other African countries, is that an eCTN (Electronic Cargo Tracking Note) is required. These eCTN’s, otherwise known as waiver certificates, are required by certain African countries to effectively control, supervise and manage import / export traffic to the country. The eCTN is an official, maritime document issued upon shipment at the loading port and mandatory for the following destination countries:
- Burundi
- The Central African Republic
- Chad
- Equatorial Guinea
- Guinea (Conakry)
- Guinea-Bissau
- Libya
- Mali
- Niger
- Senegal
- Togo
Waiver documents have full details of the exporter/importer, shipping method (containerised, groupage etc), type and value of goods being transported, name of vessel and cost of freight for the shipment. These waivers are dealt with by the importer or exporter and must be filed before the cargo arrives at its port of discharge.
Preparing the waiver adds additional costs and these costs depend on the type of cargo (20ft, 40ft etc), number of containers, number of Bills of Lading raised and the country of discharge for the shipment.

This secured Antaser website offers shippers a platform to consult the eCTN procedures and provides on-line registration and prepayment facilities. Cayley Chemicals is registered with Antaser and can obtain and manage the eCTN(s) required for importing chemicals to any of the countries listed above. The validated eCTN certificates obtained will be assigned a unique registration number (URN) and submitted to the related country’s customs system. The customs authorities will then be able to check and track information relating to the shipment using this URN.
